Pastor Tim Lundeen, from Erskine, Minnesota, recently contacted us with the final details of his summer ministry teams trip to visit the Alaskan communities of Ambler and Shungnak. Tim shares, “The Lord has us in
love with the children…I made a commitment for 3 years and that was 10 years ago.”
"We are getting our teams ready to go. We have two teams this year. One team of three, Marilyn Malmanger, (13th year), Suzanne, Weik (5th year), Lynn Jacobson (3rd year),is going to Shungnak. This team has been in Shungnak together before for the past three years…Our team going to Ambler, Geri Aanerud, Deb Schandelmeier, and Nia Johnson is all new except for me.”
About the time Pastor Lundeen was confirming his team's arrangements, a last minute request came to the attention of our staff for Vacation Bible School in Point Hope and Kivalina, Alaska, about the same time period as our team would be traveling to Ambler and Shungnak. As we know that miracles still do happen, our staff reached out to Pastor Lundeen to see if it would be possible to extend their time to minister in these communities.
Both teams prayerfully considered this request. The biggest issue when moving around Alaska is transportation and cost. Our staff quickly began seeking transportation options for the teams.
Pastor Lundeen's response was an answer to prayer! "Our two teams are having conversations about your request and as miracles are, I was offered a gift of $1500 (for both teams) extra dollars to help us out if we can make the extra VBS classes into Point Hope and Kivalina. I have also spoken with Dan Treakle (former staff pilot) in Fairbanks and he is going to give our schedule and our available resource amounts to the Christian Missions pilots that have offered services for the summer in Alaska…”
During this month of July, Pastor Lundeen and his teams will travel to all four villages, sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the Native Alaskan children and families in these remote communities.
Thank you, Pastor Tim and volunteer ministry teams – God bless you and all of those whom you serve in Alaska!
