2011 is here with lots of turmoil around the world, weather out of control and yet God is still in control. God is doing great and mighty things around us! For example, I was invited to attend the swearing in ceremony of Sam Brownback, the new Governor of Kansas. Governor Brownback was instrumental in initiating the apology issued to the Native American people on behalf of the government for the injustices of the past. I had the opportunity to shake his hand and asked if I could pray for him. I asked God to bless him in this important role as Governor. I also witnessed history, as on that same day, the first Native American woman, Ponca-We Victors, was sworn in as 103rd District State Representative. It is a great time to be a First Nations person and be part of the healing and restoration of our Native American people!
During the first semester of the 2010-2011 school year, we held a mini-conference called Princess Warriors with a Destiny and a Purpose. The Holy Spirit touched the hearts of many of the
young women who attended. It was an evening of activities that these young women seldom get a chance to experience on the reservation; make-up demonstrations through a Mary Kay consultant; manicures, back massage, bowling and other games, pizza, and of course the opportunity to share just how much God loves each of these young women. We shared how God views each of them as His creation, made in His image. I impressed upon them that they have been born for such a time as this, that they are history makers in training. The Holy Spirit is bringing healing to the hearts of these young ladies. The Haskell staff from that dorm reports that this is the best group they have had, with few incident reports, and out of 63 women there still remain 60 that returned for second semester. Yeah God!
As a result of this conference, we started a Bible study/ mentoring program with the ladies. I am mentoring ten young women. They are learning about having a relationship with Jesus and trusting in Him for everything. I impress upon them to allow the Holy Spirit to heal their past wounds and bring new life and clarity. They are also learning practical skills about budgeting, cooking, goal setting and dressing for success. Through this program my goal is to help them build their self esteem, sharing how God the Creator sees them as His perfect creation.
Will and I held our annual conference at Roe Cloud in March. Our theme was Time to Heal…Time to Rebuild. Many different student clubs at Haskell were excited to attend. Ponca-We Victors was one of our speakers!
Creative Worship continues every Wednesday evening. We have a group of
students who attend regularly. We sing and pray for individuals and we pray corporately for the students and staff at Haskell Indian Nations University (HINU). Students come and listen and feel refreshed when they leave. We also have a lady who incorporates painting and drawing as we are singing.
The Holy Spirit is touching the hearts of the young people at HINU and it is so exciting to see them being made whole in Jesus’ name.
It is such a joy to serve the Most Holy God!
