Life In Angoon, Alaska

Tell A Friend

We're looking out over the Kootznahoo Inlet this morning in Angoon, Alaska.....grateful to be here after a rough ride yesterday.  This is difficult country to travel in the winter months, but not undo-able. The seas aren't frozen, but the waves demand respect.  We wait for the holes in the weather systems to get from village to village. And the people appreciate it.  It is a struggle to live so isolated, and expensive.  Most do not have consistent employment, and hunt and harvest food from the area to augment groceries.

Difficult family issues abound, and there are hurting hearts.  Last night after we tied up (with the help of a Native Lay Pastor to bring us in against the current!) folks saw the boat and came down for hours of coffee and popcorn.  After catching up, we held each other's hands in prayer and brought the strong grief of each heart to God for wisdom and guidance.  The Spirit was alive on this vessel.

The M/V Christian is a sturdy, sea-worthy and ready vessel.  It provides neutral space, where conversations can be held sacred, allowing folks to unload burdens of the heart in communities that are small and everyone's business is public. We try to offer a ministry of companionship and presence, walking alongside each person in their faith journey, so that no one feels alone.

This is the treasure of our faith and message to all,  GOD IS WITH US....Immanuel.

Even in the most remote places of this world, His love and grace abound.

THANK YOU for your interest in the ministry and for your partnership!  You ride along with us through your support, to help us provide confidential counseling services in a virtual, yet vital way.  Worship services, Bible study and VBS on board provide follow-up
opportunities for families to grow in health and faith, and  to  encourage Native Christian leadership to develop and thrive.

God's Fullest Christmas Blessings to you and your families!
