PBS to Highlight Lutheran Indian Ministries

Tell A Friend

Beginning in December, PBS stations across the country will air a 6-part documentary series focused on non-profit and public service organizations from around the world.  Now in its seventeenth season, The Visionaries will highlight topics such as self-determination and raising up Native leaders within Native American communities by showing the work of Lutheran Indian Ministries.

Visionaries has chosen Lutheran Indian Ministries to profile in its 17th Season because it is a vivid example of an organization that promotes leadership skills and self-determination among Native Americans in many areas of North America.  Rev. Dr. Don Johnson, Executive Director of Lutheran Indian Ministries shares, “God has given people of all cultures, all tribes and all nations certain inherent abilities … they simply need to be afforded an opportunity to develop those to be useful servants in their own world.”

“I believe that the central idea of The Visionaries doing what you can about huge, intractable problems is an idea worth encouraging,” says actor Sam Waterston, the host of the series.

The objective of Lutheran Indian Ministries is to reach American Indian, Native Alaskan and First Nations people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, disciple them in their faith, and recruit and provide Lutheran theological and leadership training opportunities to nurture, strengthen and empower them for service in the church and in their community.

Lutheran Indian Ministries documentary will begin airing on PBS stations across the country on January 6, 2012.  Please check your local listings for the exact date and time or link to updates in your area here.  You can also view the video by clicking on Documentary at the top of this page.
