Jesus Our Savior Lutheran Church

The day was like every other day at Vacation Bible School.  It was sunny and warm, like each and every day of this year’s VBS.  The forty plus children who came to hear God’s Word were in for a treat and something that they did not expect.  It was the time for  the closing and it would come as a surprise to them.  They would hear God’s Word in a way that they had never heard it before.

One of our confirmed members sat and read from God’s sacred Word.  Her voice was loud and clear.  The children who had wondered who she was and why she had come now gathered around, closer and closer.

The Word that was read came from the last chapter of Genesis.  The story was about how the sons of Jacob worried about what their brother, whom they had treated so badly; would do now that their father was dead.  The Good News was proclaimed that even though they had meant it for evil, God had altered the outcome to be good.  Joseph had forgiven his brothers.  More importantly God had forgiven them as well.

What made the hearing of this story so special was that it was read from a special Bible by a forgiven and healed child of God.  Alise read this story from her Braille Bible.  The children surrounded Alise and were enthralled with her ability to read the bumps and the spaces bringing God’s Word of grace to life!

Two days later the children and their families gathered for our closing.  An offering was taken and $124.69 was collected for the Lutheran Blind Mission.  And so the Kingdom of God extends to the ends of the earth!
